Fly Stitch
Thank you to Margherita for sharing this sample:
Liz has used fly stitch in different sizes, again for trees, that make a wintry scene:
Wendy H has provided this lovely example for our August challenge, and explains below how it’s worked.
Fly stitch is sewn in the same way as a single chain stitch, but is open at the top. It is worked in a ‘V’ or a ‘Y’ depending on the length of the tail. Variations include Twisted Fly, which has a small knot at the bottom of the ‘V’ and Feather stitch, in which the stitches are combined.
In my first example I’ve used Fly stitch to give the impression of dandelion seed heads being blown by the wind and in the second combined them with French knots for a delicate appearance.
The possibilities are endless, try experimenting with different thicknesses of threads and sizes of stitches.
