Cretan Stitch
Jenny has provided this sample of Cretan Stitch – in a lovely variegated thread stitched between painted circles. The effect is of lichen patches on tree bark.
Cretan Stitch is also known as the long-armed, stacked, or cretan feather stitch, as well as by various other names. It is most often used as a filling stitch, particularly in crewel embroidery.
