Where to start? Annette kept us fizzing with ideas and techniques all week-end. The plan was to make a small hanging depicting elements of whatever story we wanted to tell, whether focusing on a special place, a personal journey, an aspect of home life or garden … the possibilities were endless. Needless to say, the topics people chose were all very different.
Annette was extremely generous with her guidance, ideas and techniques. We learned different means of transferring images and especially faces (something most of us shy away from) onto fabric, thought about the composition of the piece as a whole and considered ideas for finishing our panels.
By the way, this is Dave, Annette’s faithful companion throughout her work – we saw him in a number of her pieces. |
There was so much covered in the two days of summer school that no-one got near to finishing their piece (see below), but we did all go home fired up with enthusiasm for doing just that.
Annette’s style is quirky, original and very tactile, and her enthusiasm for stitching stories is infectious. Thank you for your inspiration, Annette.
