A lively, inspiring talk by Jessica on Friday gave us an intriguing glimpse of what to expect on Saturday’s workshop. She showed us images of her zingy, colourful embroideries – some very large scale – which she creates using unconventional and mostly recycled materials.
Jessica uses a combination of processes and techniques, with the emphasis on both colour and sustainability, to create eye-catching pieces out of normally ephemeral items that might otherwise go into the waste bin.
For Saturday’s workshop, we assembled an array of plastic and foam washers, wire, circles cut from scrap fabrics, straws, beads, pipe cleaners to create a mini floral sampler. The morning sped by, and we had great fun creating our own floral fantasies using various 3D manipulation techniques. Lots of ideas for future projects …
