New feature – Member profile

This is the first in an occasional series focusing on Warwickshire Stitchers members.
NUALA CHIBA has been a stalwart member of Warwickshire Young Stitchers, and recently completed her A Levels.  We hope to see her from time to time when she is home from wherever she continues her studies, and wanted to share some of the wonderful things she has been doing.
Nuala says, “from a young age, I have loved arts and crafts, such as origami. I opted to do both Art and Textiles at GCSE, where I was able to experiment with various media.
“For my Year 11 prom I decided to make my own prom dress, designing and adapting a dress pattern and adding three-dimensional flower embellishments.”
“During lockdown I had watched some videos and taught myself  to embroider. I joined Warwickshire Young Stitchers because I wanted to do ‘Embroidery’ as my skill for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and it has been great to be surrounded by many creative people who have shared their knowledge with me. I was also happy to have the opportunity to exhibit some of my work at Compton Verney with the group last year.
“I have just finished my A levels – one of my A levels is Art where I incorporated different textile skills into my projects, especially hand embroidery.”
Sending Nuala our best wishes for whatever she decides to do next.
We hope to share more member profiles, and would love to hear from you if you would like to tell us about something textile/stitch-related you’ve been doing, or want to suggest another ‘unsung hero’.
