Chloe Patience, 3D Embroidery

The title of Chloe’s Zoom talk: “My Passion for Textiles” seemed very apt. She has had an extensive career creating and making for a wide range of high-profile clients, such as Kate Moss, Stella Tennant. retail outlets such as Harvey Nicholls, and for Paris and London fashion weeks to name just a few.

Chloe now teaches at Edinburgh College of Art and also works as a design consultant.  A recent commission was a costume for the film, ‘The Outlaw King’ (design on front of tunic).

Her design work has meant sourcing unconventional materials to fulfil a brief, such as exploring fly fishing tackle shops for an underwater themed commission. This approach carried through into Saturday’s workshop, which concentrated on raised embroidery techniques: turkey work, Amish plush work, couching, beading, and using a range of materials for embroidery besides conventional threads.

We had great fun getting to grips with some unfamiliar techniques or reminding ourselves how to do them, and these are definitely going to appear in future work.  Many thanks to Chloe for her patient teaching (no pun intended!) and for sharing her extensive expertise.
