Workshop with Julie Tristan – Text in Textiles – Zoom Workshop

This workshop will involve stitching letters or words onto collaged backgrounds using upcycled materials.  The content of the pieces may be personal (a special memory, an important poem, a specific name) or an abstract reference (a symbol, a series of disrupted characters, an exploration of one letter in contrasting styles).  The texts may include imagery to support the sentiment expressed if appropriate.

Techniques will include layering, collaging, appliqué, hand stitch and/or machine embroidery. There will be an opportunity to produce a series of smaller samples, or to work on one more in-depth resolved textile; all pieces will develop their own narrative.
