Talk – Relative, by Maria Thomas

This is a talk that explores family history and belonging. Concerning herself with her role as wife and mother, Maria shares her personal experience of family ties and cherished relationships through a series of contemporary patchwork garments and artefacts.

Maria studied Embroidery at Manchester Polytechnic during the early 1990’s and has continued to practise and exhibit textiles ever since.  Her love of patchwork and quilting techniques combined with found objects and memories inspire her to create. Teaching textiles for over 25 years, she lives and makes her art in Kenilworth, Warwickshire.
