Members’ Day: Gaudi Inspired

22 April 2023 @ 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926) was a Catalan architect, whose works have a very distinctive style. Most are located in Barcelona, including his main work, the church of the Sagrada Família and Parc Guell. Bright and colourful mosaics, things that draw the eye to certain points and always a bit of fun.

Antoni Gaudi’s creations were both traditional Catalan and modernist.  He worked in the field of architecture, as well as gardens, sculptures and indeed all of the arts. He always said that nature was his best teacher, with its infinite richness of texture and shapes.  Pioneering a special mosaic, called “Trencar” (translates as to break in Catalan), creating mosaics from broken ceramic tiles, plates and cups.

Some of his works in Barcelona are the Parc Güell, the Palau Güell, the Casa Milà-LaPedrera, the Casa Vicens, Sagrada Família, the Casa Batlló, and Palau de la Musica Catalina.

We’ll create something Gaudi inspired, showing the technique of using small pieces of scrap fabric to create movement.  Alternatively, a pattern for an iguana can be purchased prior to the workshop.

See Members’ area for requirements and pattern.
